- Austin was founded from a township called Waterloo. It became the State Capital and the State Capital Building was completed in 1888.
- Austin is considered the “Live Music Capital of the World” with over 700 live music venues throughout the city.
- Austin is home to three lakes, each with its own “specialty”. At the heart of the city, Lady Bird Lake is a haven for canoes and is surrounded by walking trails and park. Just a little up the Colorado River, Lake Austin is a favorite of wake boarders for it’s high cliff walls and smooth water. Above the damn, Lake Travis is the largest lake boasting great, skiing, sailing and many state and local parks.
- Austin is the home of the University of Texas Longhorns, one of the largest and most accredited universities in the country. The campus is located at the heart of the city and is home to some of the oldest buildings in Austin.
